    Pondering on double majoring

    17 February 2007

Recently, the block seems to be talking about what majors and/or minors to take. Advisements are coming up soon, so everyone’s busy pondering on the remaining years of their college life. As for me, I have been thinking about it hard. I’ve been fortunate enough to be offered the AB-MA degree for Polsci, which basically means that I can get an MA degree by my fifth year. No matter how tempting an MA degree sounds, I decided against it. My heart wasn’t just there.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my Polsci classes. More importantly, I’m doing really well with all my majors. Perhaps the only reason why I decided not to go for the MA degree was because if ever I do commit myself to another year in Ateneo, I would rather be studying something else. I would gladly devote another year to pursue my other interests and passions.

Sans the double major dilemma. I want to double major in Communications. I’d settle for a minor, but unfortunately, there isn’t such a thing. I have feasted my eyes on their list of electives, and it just got me beyond excited. As much as I am passionate about pursuing law and political science, there’s a huge part of me that longs to continue learning and indulge on my artsy-fartsy side. I just know that I have to take Comm, even if that means having a total of two practicums and a thesis.

I still have a few weeks to think this over. I’m leaning towards pursuing a double major. The five years stay in Ateneo before law school does affect me a bit. But I know I want this, and I do not back down on something I want until I get it. Right now, I’m basically asking for advice from other people. Let’s just hope I find the clarity I’d need for this endeavor.

Moving on to the lingering exhaustion from yesterday’s events. I finished shooting for our group’s Psych commercial. Gosh, that was beyond stressful. I also had the chance to have our Theo consultation, so that we can start early (despite being the last group). It’s really crazy thinking about how stressful the next few weeks will be. But optimism shall be my constant ally through all this.

Yesterday after school, Jake and I headed to my high school, CSA to watch Supernova. It’s a rock concert that my sister, Rubie organized with the HSSC. It was so nice to bring Jake along, while introducing him to a wonderful part of my life: High School. I got to see some of my teachers, talk to the lower batchmates and just get reacquainted with the entire College Fair experience. Oh nostalgia. I miss it sometimes.

The concert was fun. I get to see Imago play, and that was enough. :) Of course, there were so many other great bands including Joshua’s band, Kastigo. Ang galing, sobra! Ang laki ng improvement nila mula High School! It ended around 10, and I was starving. My family, Jake and I ended up eating at Greenbelt around 10:30. The worst part of all this? Knowing that I have to wake up at 6:30 for NSTP. Argh.

So basically, I still haven’t had enough sleep. Eye bags! Boo. I’ll blog again tomorrow.
